Eight Voices of Dissent 2000: Despite relatives of Justices Thomas & Scalia being in the pay of Republican organizations, the US Supreme Court halted the counting of disputed paper ballots from Florida. George W. Bush, despite losing the national popular vote, was appointed President. 2001: Following the 9-11 attack, Congress passed the Patriot & Homeland Security Acts, granting Bush unprecedented powers to circumvent the Constituition & Bill of Rights. Bush ordered the invasion of Afghanistan & the arrest and detention of both foreigners & US citizens suspected of anti-US actions. 2002: With millions using voting machines which provide no paper record (all made by Republican supporter-owned corporations), the Republicans consolidated their control of both houses of Congress. 2003: Claiming the presence of weapons of mass destruction, Bush ordered the invasion of Iraq. The US military destroyed large areas of Baghdad & other cities, but failed to find any germ, gas or nuclear weapons. US forces were charged with torturing & killing Iraqi & Afghani prisoners. Tax cuts & billion dollar contracts led to a shift of trillions of dollars of Treasury funds to Republican-owned corporations. 2004: With forty million Americans forced to use voting machines, despite widespread charges of fraud, Bush was retained in power. Fighting continued in Afghanistan & Iraq, Bush appointees invalidated civil rights & environmental laws; & withdrew the US from international treaties. THE NEW AMERICAN REVOLUTION, featuring eight opponents of the Bush Administration whose public criticism has been almost completely ignored by the US mass media, was filmed in 2004 at the Courthouse in Boulder, Colorado, at the First Church in Cambridge, & at the Revolutionary Women's Conference held during the 2004 Democratic Party National Convention in Boston, Massachussetts; where the first American Revolution began in 1776.
